Overview

Wedge are heavy-duty mechanical fasteners designed to provide a permanent, high-strength connection between structural elements and hardened concrete or masonry bases. When driven and torqued into a pre-drilled hole, the anchor’s expansion clip is forced outward against the hole wall by a tapered cone, creating a powerful mechanical interlock that becomes stronger as tensile load increases.

Installation

1. Mark & Drill the Hole
Mark the anchor position precisely. Using a hammer drill with a carbide-tipped bit of the correct diameter, drill a hole to the required embedment depth plus 10 mm clearance. Maintain the drill perpendicular to the concrete surface throughout.

2. Clean the Hole Thoroughly
Remove all drilling dust from the hole using a blow pump and stiff wire brush — repeat a minimum of three times. Dust left in the hole reduces expansion grip and dramatically lowers pullout capacity. Never skip this step.

3. Insert the Wedge Anchor
Insert the anchor through the fixture hole and into the drilled hole. Tap firmly with a hammer until the nut and washer are seated flush against the fixture surface and the required embedment depth is achieved.

4. Torque to Specification
Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified installation torque for the given anchor diameter and concrete grade. The torque draws the cone into the expansion clip, creating full mechanical interlock with the hole wall.

5. Verify Installation
Confirm correct thread protrusion above the nut (minimum 1 full thread visible). Check that the fixture is pulled tight against the concrete surface with no gap. Record torque value and anchor position in the installation QA record.

6. Apply Corrosion Protection (if required)
For exposed or aggressive environments, apply an approved zinc-rich paint or sealant cap over the exposed anchor thread and nut. For stainless steel anchors, no additional protection is required under normal conditions.
